EARTHQUAKE IN HAITI

The 2010 earthquake in Haiti was an unprecedented disaster on a massive scale. With the epicenter of the earthquake located in the capitol city of Port-Au-Prince, most of the Haitian government’s operations were halted. This has made resource coordination a growing problem for the relief and rebuilding efforts. For these reasons, The Gadfly Project (TGP) is assembling a team that will be based in both, USA and Haiti. The team will provide much needed geospatial services that will vastly improve the efficiency of the relief effort. The services will also provide a basis for the rebuilding and operational phases of the country’s redevelopment.

The Gadfly Project will provide advanced geospatial services to the Haitian government. The services include:

  • Oversee the gathering and processing of aerial, satellite, and terrestrial raster imagery

  • Oversee gathering of non-raster data

  • Assembling of data into coherent, usable information

  • Creating intuitive digital maps

  • Creating a database the can be accessed through internet

  • Establishing a satellite link to enable reliable internet access

  • Implementing a training / work program for 30 Haitian people

  • Transfer technology and capabilities to Haitian government
